Addendum: rolling back via `sudo apt-get install
kde-spectacle=24.02.2-0xneon+22.04+jammy+release+build32` makes it work
properly again.

Tested it again in 8.4.0; still broken. Froze up for >2min on the first attempt
to search, had to force-terminate.
