I know this is late but I finally found out what was wrong.
It was Opacity Background. This isn't an issue of QT-Curve but of those apps.
I've filed bugs about it.

I used a Live ISO of Kubuntu 20.04 LTS, it comes with the following:
KDE Plasma 5.18.4
KDE Frameworks 5.68.0
Qt 5.12.8
Linux Kernel 5.4.0-26-generic
