I use default theme in digiKam, but I've installed a system theme: materia-kde,
and kvantum-theme-materia(maybe theme engine).
I tried Fusion theme, and it works well. So it's materia-kde's problem, if you

The text is still there. The problem comes from the color theme. What color
theme did you choose? Standard plasma color theme? Please try a color theme
from digiKam Menu-> Settings-> Color Theme.

Yes, the text from the sidebar can be shortened with ... or disappear
completely if there is not enough space on the screen. In the digiKam setup
under Miscellaneous you can set that the text should only be
