Since reporting the bug I've observed more closely, it may not be as random as I thought. The likelihood of it occurring increases as the number of images in the folder decreases. In folders of around 30+ images I don't recall seeing the problem. Whilst it isn't always the same images per se, (my work-flow dictates folder contents change very frequently), when it does occur it's, as observed so far, always the first and/or last image in the folder.
