Ok solved it, after looking at the sending settings in kmail for the 50003rd
time spotted it had changed the outgoing STARTTLS port to 587, it should be 25
for me mail server. So not sure where or how that has take

Just to make sure it wasn't a config file that was mangled I reset the password
in Kmail for that account. No luck, but receiving works fine.
