I'm afraid that I can't find any clear instructions as to how to install debug
symbols on Debian. I also have only seen the crash once, so it wouldn't
necessarily help in any case.

It's possible that the window has been closed. Although it's hard to say
without a complete backtrace. Can you install debug symbols and submit a new
backtrace? If you install debug info packages, coredumpctl gdb
