            Bug ID: 363092
Summary: desktop misalignment after enabling slideshow, freshly
                    installed
           Product: plasmashell
           Version: 5.5.5
          Platform: Kubuntu Packages
                OS: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: Desktop Containment
          Assignee: se...@kde.org
          Reporter: cress...@nycap.rr.com

I experienced a desktop misalignment issue when I installed Kubuntu 15.04.
Since then I’ve installed 15.10, 16.04, and KDE’s development 16.10
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/daily-live/current/ , all with the same
problem.

Sometime during configuration and after a restart, the display comes up offset
to the right and lower than it should be.
It seems to be caused by enabling the slide show feature. Maybe.
The desktop wallpaper, icons and widgets are offset. An icon can be dragged out
of the desktop, but will spring back when released. Right clicking outside the
offset desktop doesn’t produce a menu.
Panels and program windows are unaffected, you can place them anywhere.

It’s as if the folder view lost it’s 0,0 reference.

Once offset, disabling the slide show feature or returning to the desktop view
does not correct it.
However, lowering the resolution in Settings (to anything) and raising it again
(1920x1080) will fix it, until the next restart where it comes up offset
again. I’ve found no other problems with any of the installs, everything else
seems nominal.

All the installs were new (no upgrades). In the latest installation (16.10), I
enabled the slide show feature without any other customizations, with the same
results.

I was leaning towards getting a new video card, but now I’m not so sure.
Installing 15.10 in a virtual environment (VirtualBox) had the same result ,
and I can’t see why the video card would be affected only by the slide show
feature.

Both Ubuntu and Lubuntu 16.04 display OK, but don’t have a slide show feature
to test fairly. Is this feature Kubuntu or KDE?

My regular system is Kubuntu 14.04 and displays fine, as does a virtualized
Win 7.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install Kubuntu 15.04 or newer.
2. Select Folder view.
3. Enable slideshow.
4. Select the Pictures folder.
5. Slideshow starts, Folderview is OK.
6. Restart. Desktop is offset.

My PC is a homebuilt using a Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H version 1 motherboard,
recently upgraded with the latest BIOS (f9) for that version. The processor is
an AMD Phenom II 955 quad.
I have 8GB of ram, and the system is installed on a 250GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD.
The on board graphics is AMD/ATI Radeon 4290. Kinfo gives the driver as X.Org
Gallium 0.4 on AMD RS880 (DRM 2.43.0, LLVM 3.8.0).
The currently installed Kubuntu is 16.10, KDE Plasma version 5.5.5, QT version
5.5.1, Kernel version 4.4.0-22, 64 bit.
The Driver Manager utility installed an AMD microcode driver, which, so far as
I know, is the only proprietary driver.

A startup script jostling the video resolution might work; I’m not a coder. I’d
buy a video card if I had some confidence that it would correct this issue. Is
there a list of compatible video cards available?

Thanks
Andy
