Bug ID: 440497 Summary: Add context menu option to launch app in a terminal window Product: plasmashell Version: 5.22.4 Platform: openSUSE RPMs OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: wishlist Priority: NOR Component: Application Launcher (Kickoff) Assignee: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk Reporter: bizy...@zoho.com CC: mikel5...@gmail.com, plasma-b...@kde.org Target Milestone: 1.0 SUMMARY It is incredibly common to troubleshoot application problems by launching them in a terminal window to grab detailed logs. A recent example from the Russian chat is how a user was able to troubleshoot "Open in terminal" silently not working in Dolphin due to an incorrect application preference. It is currently possible to right-click an app, choose "Edit", then "Application", then "Advanced", then tick "Launch in terminal", then click 2 "OK"s. Not only is that hard to learn and navigate for novice users, but also has a permanent effect in the form of a copied `.desktop` file in `~/.local/share/applications/` which will stay there forever. What would really help is a context menu option that would launch the app in a terminal window once, without any long-term effects. The concept is not entirely new, a similar action exists in KRunner's shell runner, but that requires knowing the executable name.
