I can reproduce this crash consistently by following these steps:
1. run kate
2. write anything on new buffer
3. ctrl+w
I hope it can be solved soon, I tend to use keyboard shortcuts a lot.

Tomorrow will be the 6th year anniversary for this bug, and it went unanswered.
Normally people expect some kind of feedback for their bug reports, otherwise
they don't bother anymore.
