Haha, I use mine every day but having something to sync the reader with would
be nice. Could be the launch of a refresh of this application. Maybe a KDE
GSoC project?

Not a bug.
kde-apps/akonadi installation gives appropriate steps for how to configure your
akonadi instance, depending on the use flags you have set.
