And some more interesting info:
Merging the ATTENDEE continuation lines to one long line for each attendee also
made the ics work correctly in korganizer.
This means that the bug is in the way korganizer

A bit more info on this:
1. Took the ics file for an event that did not show up
2. Edited the ics file removing all the ATTENDEE lines with continuation lines
3. Imported the file into korganizer and it did show

I've given up on akonadi and moved to thunderbird because of a very long
