I have found a partial workaround – namely changing the background color of the
HTML Status Bar.
This can be done in Settings -> Configure KMail -> Appearance -> Colors. I have
used "#fcfcfc"

It seems to be fixed now. The "Kmail folders" are not anymore added
automatically to configuration.
