The problem seems solved under Kmail 2.10 (the problem does not appear so far).
I use KDE 4.6.4 under Kubuntu and I have installed kdepim 4.6 from the
experimental kubuntu-ppa

I've currently this problem, and it begins with kde 4.x ! (I didn't notice such
issues with kde 3.x). I use KDE 4.4.4 (kmail 1.13.3) on Kubuntu 10.04.
I use 3 mail addresses with kmail through imap. And I noticed that with gmail,
this bug really frequently

I would want that bug to be reopen. I try on two different PC KDE 4.4.4 (via
the ppa) with Kubuntu 10.04, and the bug is still there.
It was the same with KDE 4.4.3.

I'm hit by exactly the same problem with KDE 4.4.3 on Kubuntu 10.04.
Creation of the distribution list from Kmail or Kaddressbook lead to the same
problem: the list becomes empty.
