Also the password isn't getting saved in the kdewallet. I can open the

ok, so if you change encoding to auto then reboot the system OR simply exit
kmail your encoding will revert back to Cyrillic(IBM866) with the incorrect

This fixed it for me .. (until the next time the akonadi database gets
corrupted)
This involves removing the old akonadi database and letting akonadi construct
and reindex a new one.
