This occurred again with my inbox I filed a new bug 377070.
I wish this was taken more seriously. This seems to happen at times for no
reason as happened with my inbox

They were local folders on my local disk,
~/.local/share/.local-mail.directory/. Turns out to be an issue with backends,
sqlite, which should not have been used. It was set to the default on Gentoo
