Looking on the Toshiba site the difference seems to be a slightly
different processor Pentium® M processor Ultra Low Voltage 753 for the
PPR20E and Pentium® M processor Ultra Low Voltage 773 for the PPR21E.
Also the spec says the PPR21E supports wireless a/b/g whereas the PPR20E
only supports b/g

I've found a reproducible bug in 3.8.0 kernels installed in precise.
We did an EFI install and it used this newer kernel which seemed to be
selected from:

As James Dupin suggests, I installed phonon-backend-gstreamer1.0 (but no
phonon-backend-gstreamer1.0-common which was not listed in my configuration)
with synaptic.
It uninstalled automaticaly phonon-backend-gstreamer and
phonon-backend-gstreamer-common.
And then digikam runs like a charm.
