I can also confirm solved with a BIOS update.
Make sure to find the correct BIOS for your model number at Lenovo's

Please note that this is with the default kernel parameters "quiet
splash" but AFTER having followed the steps in "Testing for a work
around" steps... I'm sure there was another interface listed BEFORE I

For what it's worth, the same thing happens in Linux 3.2.0-59-generic
i686; I don't have any older kernels still in place on either system to
see if it goes farther back than that.

Sigh (or in Bavarian actually, fittingly "mei" ;-)), this same bug since
12.04 seems back with the Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, stopping the installer
(which loops slides infinitely without message nor progress) after it
has mounted the /-to-be below /tmp to copy from USB.
