I tried both the 2.13.9 patched kernel with the firmware and the newest 2.16rc7

I just received this Lenovo ThinkPad E540 today. I replaced the harddisk with
an 120 GB SSD and made fresh install of Kubuntu 14.04.1 and discovered this bug
here.
Fortunately the proposed workaround to disable USB3.0 in the BIOS settings
helped to get around this.

only happen when the touchpad is treated as touchpad. I haven't had any
problem when loading the touchpad driver as a simple mouse (no
scrolling, tapping, multitouch, ... for the touchpad):

As far as I know installing the card is a PITA. Otherwise I would have done
that already. But, if it isn't too taxing (taking the motherboard out or
taking apart the screen would be too taxing), I would love to know.

Hm, I'm not sure I can give a thorough description since I don't
understand enough about the exact workload myself. It is a fairly
arbitrary workload generated by our users.
In the end, it boils down to creating, reading and writing many
(~20,000) sqlite files of size 16kb - 12GB across many fold
(otherwise unloaded test machines)
On a dual core machine, 100% system CPU usage with zero writes is seen
on one core for 5-10 minutes, spending time in BTRFS threads.

Bogus "another ope
If Lenovo does not have an access door on the bottom that provides
access to the wireless card, I am doubly glad that I chose Toshiba over
Lenovo when I recently purchased a new laptop. My decision was based on
the bad reviews for the new keyboard and touchpad design.

I just took it apart and tried it. Easy. On my 540p there are 2 service
panels at the bottom 1 for HDD and memory the other smaller one is the
wifi card. I already swapped the HDD with SSD by taking apart the larger
one. Just make sure you get the Intel 7260 NGW form factor for the half-
mini size
