I have the same problem on a T450s running ubuntu 14.04. i installed
kernel 3.17 and 4.0rc4 nothing changed.
The fancy stuff is not important for me but if there is a solution could
someone please explain stepp by stepp what to do. Ideal i want to switch
off the trackpad an use only the

Thinkpad e540, Firmware version 1.58, updated to 2.17. Using Kubuntu
14.04.2.
Installed Bios version 2.18 a few minutes ago. Problem has been solved.

I reported success a bit prematurely. The problem has been much improved
but it still persists in Vivid in the 4.0 kernel. I have found that if I
place the laptop in sleep mode and resume it that it corrects the issue.

me too with losing a cpu to ksoftirq. Also, battery life on my Asus G771
goes from 2:40 to 1:30 when I turn on wifi.
