Same problem here with a Dell Inspiron 7537 and I never experienced this
with earlier Ubuntu versions. The backlight automatically turns on in

The idle=poll option was more of a power hog than I realized. I actually
ended up going back to nolapic a few days after I used it. After the
electricity ran out much, MUCH faster than it should have.

We have exactly the same issue with latest upstream kernel from ubuntu,
i.e. 4.2.0-18-generic.
