I have the same issue with kernel 4.6 (vanilla) & the all 6.3 versions of the
bcmwl driver.
The 248 driver paired with the 4.4.8 ubuntu kernel seems to be working fine for

@Jeff, the backport to the much older 2.x version of smbios is just too
intrusive and risky for me to deem this worthwhile; this is more like
adding a feature to the older version 2 of the code, which is outside of
the remit of a SRU, so for Trusty, I'm not going to SRU this.

My attempts to launch Unity sessions on an updated yakkety fails with
linux 4.4.0-22 (both 4.4.0-22.39 and 4.4.0-22.40). Just some blinking on
the screen, and I'm thrown back to the greeter. It happens when I try to
launch a guest session too, so it shouldn't be anything in my
Marking Vivid verification-done since it is close to EOL and is no
longer relevant for this platform.
