kernel 4.4.0-36 hanged during normal boot, while it is okay in rescue
mode (choose resume normal boot at the text menu).
Fallback to last kernel 4.4.0-34 is ok for normal boot.

This happened to me, too. I uninstalled xserver-xorg-video-intel to work around
awful, nasty flashing, as suggested by

On the last crash after installing the 4.8rc6 kernel, but before booting
into it, something happened to one or more of lightdm, unity-greeter, or
unity. I reinstalled those 3 packages before getting my desktop to come
back. I also purged all versions of virtualbox.

I have started experiencing this issue after latest kernel update. As
many discovered that memory leak in evolution-data-server is one of the
culprit. But even after killing all eds services the memory usage still
at 800mb+ unlike trusty (500~600mb). So it is not the only reason.

I have Manjaro currently installed on that laptop and it works normally
with kernel 4.4.21. Manjaro comes with tlp by default. There aren't tlp
installed on *ubuntu/debian by default but if I install tlp, those
Debian-based distribution start working normally.

I need a little assistance - anyone. I've managed to get started (I
think) and test the first bisect and tried to mark as 'GOOD', but got
the following:

This error I had is probably the effect of a problem in the version
update (14.04 LTS to 16.04 LTS) that was aborted for some problem I
don't know, the window was frozen and I switchet to a terminal but the
process was defunct. Then I used the command "dpkg --configure -a" but
