There are definitely at least *some* BIOS problems with the 5470. For
example, it seems to have clock speed issues (where the CPU clock speed
will stay between 400 MHz - 800 MHz) which I have to resolve using
either `wrmsr -a 0x19a 0x0` or `cpupower frequency-set -g performance`
or both.

maybe you already know but I want to point out to Endless OS on my asus FN-keys
where working for me.
Was running os via USB and all FN-keys where working.
Unfortunately I don't know where to look at to see the differences between
Endless and Ubuntu :(
Latest Endless is using kernel 4.8, b
Don't think this needs a log file. I have confirmed this on more than
one computer so there shouldn't be any issues reproducing it from the
instructions above.

now I can hear the coil whine, depending on the activity of the cpu/gpu.

with power plugged in, and one with no power connected.
So it almost sounds like some weird bug in the laptop's acpi or bios or

@kaihengfeng I haven't seen an issue on both devices with the kernel
from #14. I just installed a third devices with the kernel from #21.

Well, the problem might be more noticeable with low-impedance
earphones/headphones. So more likely earphones, but possibly also
headphones. (<--- This is now guessing)
Yes I would agree (and mentioned in comment #37) that the workaround
makes audio quieter. That might be the best solution possible
@vanvugt: I can clearly reproduce the problem with headphones too, I do
not notice they "hide" anything.
I noticed the hiss listening to music so I can always clearly hear it
and it becomes very apparent in a quiet environment.
On another note, with the workaround in place the audio is way to qui
