I solved it eventually, but forgot about this post.
If I remember correctly I had to make a bootable pendrive with the 18.04
installer, because it wanted to modify something, and couldn't do it with live
cd.
And how I found this out is a mystery for me right now.

/etc/kernel/header_postinst.d/dkms invokes dkms_autoinstaller with
>/dev/null. So this is a similar symptom to other bugs that have been
fixed, but is a separate unfixed bug.
