Okay, booted with i8042.noloop=1 i8042.nomux=1 kernel parameters. Ran a
terminal and typed "dmesg | grep pnp". This is the output:
adam@redServer:~$ dmesg | grep pnp
[0.191533] pnp: PnP ACPI init
[0.195670] pnp 00:01: Plug and Play ACPI device, IDs PNP0b00 (active)
[0.195772] pnp 00:02
I forgot to mention that this was done on the upstream kernel.
Also, the touchpad works when I boot with these commands.

Hi Christopher,
I changed to the upstream kernel but there was no change in the noted
behavior.
I am not sure if this is relevant but I changed from Ubuntu Desktop to
XBMCbuntu since reporting this issue. The issue is still exactly the
same on XBMCbuntu, no touchpad response and no touchpad liste
