After some more testing, it seems that only the first suspend/resume
action worked. Subsequent suspend/resume actions all failed, with the
computer hanging most of the times, but not every time.

Updating my BIOS didn't solve the issue. This issue wasn't present in
earlier versions of Ubuntu.
When I click on suspend, the password screen appears (not lightdm, but
the lockscreen) and then my computer hangs and I have to reboot. When I
close the lid of the laptop, the screen turns off, but
I installed bumblebee and now the problem is fixed. My computer did hang
during the bumblebee installation, but after rebooting and running sudo
dpkg --configure -a and rebooting again, the issue is fixed.
I used this command to install bumblebee:
sudo apt-get install bumblebee bumblebee-nvidia

My computer hangs when I open the System Settings in Ubuntu 14.04. This
was a clean install and I have already re-installed 3 times, but the
issue still exists. This also happens when I open any setting window
(appearance, battery ,etc.).
