I ran after migrating from 12.10 to 13.04 in the same problem. When I
have in the nsswitch.conf for the hosts resolution the entry ldap the
system hangs after the reboot directly after the init-bottom script.

This worked in 12.10 and before.

In the nsswitch.conf I had:

hosts: file dns mdns4 ldap

this didnt work.
When I changed it to
hosts: file dns mdns4
It came up again.

I hope that helps....

Title:
Ubuntu Raring no hangs at startup when using LDAP entries in
  nsswitch.conf

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
After upgrade from quantal to raring, the system hangs at boot when
there is this entry in nsswitch.conf:

  hosts: files dns ldap

  instead of

  hosts: files dns

LDAP is well configured and worked perfectly in past on all client machines.
But all client machines no longer boot after upgrade to raring if I do not
remove the ldap hosts lookup.
