I have rebooted using the rc6, rc7 and rc8 versions of kernel 5.4. All three booted OK, although I noticed an error message "intramfs unpacking failed, decoding failed" when using rc7. I also tried kernels 5.4.28 and 5.4.41:  5.4.41 booted slowly, with the error messages from the sound system.
