@juliank: I was affected by this bug when upgrading to 22.04.1 from 20.04 at the weekend. (originally installed as 18.04) Unfortunately the system did *not* auto-recover. Manually picking the previous kernel options from grub gave the same "error: out of memory." I was able to recover the system
