Sorry, my netbook had become totally unusable (the keyboard was unresponsive on specific websites, the CPU invariably between 85% and 100% aetc etc) and I couldn't afford waiting for another kernel release in the unlikely hope that this would resolve the matter. I simple made a fresh re-install
