Can you confirm if AMT is enabled or not in the BIOS?
We've seen issues with AMT enabled with the TBT dock, especially with
networking.

Customer noted that this didn't help him - but I assume the above only helps in
hybrid mode.
Customer is quite grumpy...but David is on PTO and he has the system for
reproducing so I'm just trying to manage expectations at the moment. Let me
know if there are any other suggestions
Just to pick up on some of the above comments:
- my understanding is this is a touchpad firmware bug so not much point
reporting it to other distro's as well - it's not a Canonical/Ubuntu
issue either IMO.

I did a bit of investigation just before I went on vacation and I
believe this is a regression in the Ubuntu kernel - I'm not seeing the
issue with a vanilla kernel.org kernel

I don't know if it's the same issue - but recently on Debian an issue was found
with the tpm driver that was preventing suspend and resume working on a number
of systems:
