We have a Lenovo ThinkBook 15-IML and finally got its touchpad working, thanks
to ferenc-szabo!
He wrote a solution in his comments #66 and #86 (use both!) on

Give it a try, and then please give feedback! The more people it helps
the more it's worth to
@Ferenc, thank you!!
Your comments #66 and #86 finally made the touchpad WORKING!
We have a Lenovo ThinkBook 15-IML with Linux Mint 20 MATE (based on
Ubuntu 20.04) and kernel 5.4.0-42.

This bug report got stuck with wrong "Fix Released"!
@kmously and @vicamo:
Please could you set the status back to "In Progress"?

I just found that the kernels above do have an elan_i2c.ko with
"ELAN0634" by issuing:
for KO in $(locate elan_i2c) ; do strings -f $KO | grep ELAN0634 ; done
Nevertheless this touchpad still does not work with Ubuntu :-(

I also tested kernel 5.4.0-38, 5.3.0-59 and 4.15.0-106 without success.
I confirm that the touchpad on our Lenovo ThinkBook 15 IIL does not work. And
it is not listed by "xinput" either. I tried many suggestions with BIOS
settings, kernel parameters and reloading modules.

I have here two HP Compaq nx8220 which are affected by this bug. They
have a Pentium M (32bit).
I see this bug since kernel 3.19.0-32-generic and also with 4.2.0-19-generic
(newest Ubuntu Kernel)
With Kernels 3.13.x and 3.16.x resume works and fan stays calm.
In the forums some says that this

@Taleb: I feel with you! But Jerney (reporter of this bug) also wrote in
comment #16 that it is solved for him. Therefore I would open a new
report exactly about your issue, with all details of your system and
symptoms.

Hi Dhinak. Which kernel does work for you?
I tested 3.13.0-24, then 3.13.0-27 and since this week there is 3.13.0-29 to
upgrade to. For my two HP nx8220 all 3 kernels do not control the cpu fan
correctly! Both laptops ran Ubuntu since 7 years without major problems.
My 2 laptops are: HP Compaq
I did not install a daily build of Ubuntu or the kernel. But fan does
not work since 14.04.
@Dhinak: could you write which kernel 3.13.0-?? works for you, and what
hardware/BIOS you have, e.g. with Terminal command:
sudo dmidecode | head

My old HP Compaq nx8220 is affected, too.
I use Kernel 3.13.0-27-generic. Since this is an LTS (Long Term Support)
release I hope that a fix will be backported to 3.13.
After reading the upstream report I think the current patches are not the final
solution.
