Update: it might be related to the power saving settings. I had "When
the lid is closed" set to do nothing both for on battery power and for
when plugged in. I set them to Suspend and the computer finally
shutdown. I don't dare to boot up again and try to shutdown until
tomorrow.

This bug affects my zbook too. It's not a dual boot machine. The kernel
is 3.11.0-5-generic x86_64, the distribution is 12.04.4 LTS. I will post
the apport information tomorrow as I'm writing this from another
machine.
