Christopher M. Penalver (penalvch), I have managed to get the touchpad

I deleted the packages "Synaptic Touchpad Driver for X.Org Server" and

but otherwise it is capable of being installed into a PC as it is and
being booted from. If I could remove the internal drive and connect

Christopher M. Penalver (penalvch), have installed 14.04.1 onto a USB

Christopher M. Penalver (penalvch), the touchpad only works when the
system is booted directly from the live dvds I have tried. These are
12.04.0 and 14.04.1. It doesn't work on any kernel when booted from the
hard drive.
Just to reiterate, the touchpad did work when purchased earlier this
year.
Have booted from the 14.04.1 Live DVD and examined the xorg log file.
There are no details of module "syntp" as per the above extract (found
by searching for "synaptics")
The corresponding details from the Live dvd are below. The details from
"Ask Ubuntu" above give details of a package "Synapti

Christopher M. Penalver (penalvch), The notepad was purchased earlier

Synaptics Touchpad on HP 255 G1 Not Working after upgrade fro
Errors occurred during installation of upstream kernel as per attached
file "Kernel R17 Terminal Output.txt". These were substantially the
same as during the 14.04.1 upgrade (oem-ethernet, oem-wireless plus 1 or
2 others) and also the same as the upgrade to my mythtv pc. Similar
issues afterwards
Output from following attached:-
dmesg
cat /proc/bus/input/devices > ~/devices
cat /proc/version_signature > version.log
sudo lspci -vnvn > lspci-vnvn.log
synclient shows synaptics driver not loaded
dmesg shows it detected though
NB This device worked fine prior to the upgrade.
