I can confirm the bug being fixed in RC5. However I won't be able to do
that bisecting stuff within the next few weeks.

Sure, no problem.
Tried both with the upstream kernel.
Neither parameter had any effect on the shutting down problem.

Same bug as described in Bug #1245904 except that I am using Kubuntu
13.10 instead of Ubuntu.
Screen freezes on shutdown with the kubuntu logo showing. Suspend to
ram, suspend to disk and rebooting works fine.

Acer Aspire E1-572 doesn't shutdown properly

Hi,
I am having the same issue and just tried out the latest daily from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ as boot from USB.
Sadly the problem persists.
Suspend to Ram, Suspend to Disk and Reboots work fine however.
