I have now downgraded all of these systems to 3.19.8-031908-generic

but MAY have made
3.19 crashed as well, just now. This is surprising. I don't have a
trace, as the kernel downgrades messed up netconsole somehow, but I'll

In my testing, linux-crashdump fails to recognize the root FS if the VM is
using a SCSI controller. When the root FS is connected via SATA, it works fine.
This is on an up-to-date 18.04 install in a VMware Workstation VM.

Is there a step missing in the reproducer steps? On a new 19.04 install
on a random Dell Inspiron arecord fails with:
