Thanks for the link, for some reason I was looking in the wrong place.
The issue seems to have been introduced in 4.15.0-13 (4.15.0-12 works).
There is in fact a CIFS related patch[1][2][3] that was backported and
is most probably the one introducing this regression.

4.15.0-20 seems to have the issue as well. I'd try in between builds but
it looks like those have been removed.

I've just tested the latest upstream kernel (4.19) and the issue no
longer occurs. I'm attaching a log as it may help understanding the
