Sorry for first adding such an unspecific question and than answering it
by myself:
It might be interesting to note that at least for me (on a Linux Mint 16
KDE standard installation - using fglrx drivers) adding "nolapic" to the
grub cmdline causes suspend to work. Could this help?

I have the same bug.. tried Ubuntu 13.10, lubuntu 13.10 and latest linux mint..
am currently running lubuntu.
I also have 4GB memory in one module.
