I booted the Trusty live image from the address above using an USB key
(no installation to hard disk) and none of the SD cards I tried were
recognized. Running dmesg didn't even show anything related to
inserting/removing the cards.

I installed the BIOS F.15 update (I had to reinstall the factory-default
Windows 7, install the update, and then reinstall Xubuntu due to
partitioning issues).
