Will do asap, but I will say that my current kernel on archlinux
contains the patch, so I assume upstream has it in the mainline kernel.
As my internet connection is less than adequate as of now I'll have to
wait to be able to download the latest iso, but I will test as soon as I
can.

You
Marty Plummer, could you please execute the following via a terminal, boot into
the new kernel, and advise if this issue is resolved (the expectation is this
may address your issue):
cd ~/Desktop git clone
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git
linux-stable cd
Marty Plummer, could you please test the development release via
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ and advise if this is
reproducible? It contains the upstream fix previously discussed:

Marty Plummer, don't worry about submitting apport-collect on mainline

to the test results.
Despite this, the issue you are reporting is an upstream one. Could you

Just tested against the latest mainline kernel on Ubuntu Raring, same
issue. Apport information to follow.

Marty Plummer, you may test the latest mainline kernel, which is now
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.12-rc4-saucy/ , in your
current install. You would not need to test the latest mainline kernel
in Saucy at this time.

Still an issue. I've switched to arch linux and was testing via live
iso, so I can't do that in my current install. Would a vm work the same,
or not? I *could* install ubuntu on a partition temporarily but I'd like
to avoid that if possible, as I no longer use ubuntu. I just want to
follow through
Nevermind, just realized I'm an idiot. I have two perfectly good usb
sticks I can install ubuntu to and the mainline kernel debs, so I can
still test this properly. Having some domestic issues, but I will get it
tested within a day or two.

Crap, I don't have (nor do I intend to) saucy installed; I've tested
against saucy for you by booting the iso from hdd using grub2, but I
can't do that with the 3.12 kernel because I'd need to reboot, and since
that's a live environment it won't keep the changes.
Could an iso with 3.12 be built?

Marty Plummer, so in Lucid, are you able to set any desired option (ex.
edge/2 finger scrolling, etc.)?

Sorry about that, I lost connection shortly after running apport against
this bug. No, it still functions only as a simple ps/2 mouse, and I
cannot set any standard touchpad options.

Not personally; I installed raring immediately after getting this
laptop. However, this bug has been reported for previous versions here;
in fact I started this bug report because I posted that this bug affects
me on an older versions's bug report; I can't seem to find it now,
though.
