Wow, now I'm ashamed...
After searching for linux-image-extra-* i looked through synaptics and
saw that this package wasn't installed for the actual kernel I reported
the bug against (3.11.0-4).
So this is Bug is no Bug but a fail by the operator. After installing
the linux-image-extra for the
Simon K, could you please provide the full computer model as noted on
the sticker?

it is labeled tm2-1110eg, this product however is only sold by Amazon Germany.
I think it is a rebranded tm2-2010eg (Id: WN867EA)
that said, I have the latest BIOS- version (F25) and HP does not offer official
driver support for Linux on this notebook.
