Turns out the .exe from HP has no .iso file in it, so the instructions listed in the link you sent don't appear to be valid. So I would indeed need to boot a recent copy of windows, easier said than done. I will probably need to install a different hard disk and install the OS to it. a pain in

yeah i'm not going to bother with it... i installed the latest amd/ati proprietary video drivers.. which handle suspend/resume fine. The issue I now have with those is brightness no longer works .. xrandr --output LVDS --brightness 0.3 works but messes with colors. there seems to be more
