I would be happy to do that, but I already tried to install kernel
3.11.0-20 from Saucy, and the problem persists. My best guess is that
this is an issue that was already present before but it is only
triggered now, maybe by xserver-xorg-video-intel or something like that.

I have updated the BIOS. I now have the following two lines in dmesg:

Running xrandr (or the unity-control-center) with kernel
$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
8DET69WW (1.39 )

Okay, I did not think about trying that. I will update the BIOS (as per
previous post, I am currently using 8DET64WW (1.34 ) 08/31/2012) over
the weekend and provide an update.
