I am using HP ZBook 15 procured in 2013. It is a dual-boot machine: Windows 7 +
Linux. The problem began after reinstallation of linux:
- shutdown worked with LinuxMint 17
- shutdown does not work with Ubuntu-MATE 15.04
If I want to poweroff I have to reboot to Windows and issue the shutdown
Much to my surprise, the issue was resolved after a reinstall of the
system. I can't explain why, I don't think there was anything special
with my previous install. Maybe it's related to the fact that the BIOS
is upgraded in the meanwhile, I don't know...

I was able to update to BIOS Version: M71 Ver. 01.05 downloaded on the
above link, but the issue is not resolved.

HP Zbook
This issue should be fixed by installing BIOS 01.05 Rev.A(31 Mar 2015)
- Fixes an issue where the system running Ubuntu operating system powers on
automatically after the system is powered off.
This issue appears to be an upstream bug, since you tested the latest
upstream kernel. Would it be possible for you to open an upstream bug
report[0]? That will allow the upstream Developers to examine the issue,
and may provide a quicker resolution to the bug.
Please follow the instructions on
The problem also exists with the upstreams kernel.
~ uname -a
Linux zbook 4.0.0-04rc5-generic #201503230035 SMP Mon Mar 23 04:36:26 UTC
2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
I only installed this system on 6 March, so I have no idea if there was a prior
kernel version where it didn't
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
