I had the same problem and I solved it removing older kernels. For the
safety keep at least two kernels, it's enough to the system.

Same problem, but my crashing system's scapegoat was the wireless
driver. Cue several hours of trying to figure out how to disable

kernel was updated to 3.19.0.31 via update-manager. My system is ubuntu
15.04. With the vivid kernel. Booting with the old kernel, 3.19.0.30,

I can confirm that version 3.19.0-31.36 fixes the issue on my vivid
64bits install. (The observations mentioned in comment #4 was from a
vivid 32bits install.)
I don't see any linux package in the trusty or vivid upload queues. Or
does it work differently with the kernel?

This may be (or may be not!) a duplicate of bug #1503655. The issue has
been identified in several kernel versions, and a fix has been uploaded.
In the meantime, I've a test kernel that can be used to confirm if this
is *really* the same bug.

I am getting a similar issue with Ubuntu 14.04 and kernel 3.19.0-31 on
Lenovo T440p. The system freezes at login screen and can't be used after
that only thing that can be done is a hard reset.
Works OK on the other hand with 3.19.0-30.

My system (15.04 Unity) doesn't freeze completely, but it certainly
behaves badly. For example: Takes ages to log in, and the sound can't be
enabled.
This kernel version should apparently be replaced ASAP.

Seems like smth with usb driver, because the mouse is hanging
completely, cursor disappearing and right before the kernel Oops in
syslog there are 4 lines like:
kernel: [ 36.631326] usb 2-1.4: 3:1: cannot get freq at ep 0x82
ep 0x82 is present in all 4 lines.
