I did not notice this problem while using ubuntu 16.04.1 with - I believe - linux 4.4.3* (cannot remember exactly which release, sorry). I should be able to test the latest upstream kernel and see if that fixes the issue. I also wanted to add that I have found what I believe is a "trigger" for the
