Unfortunately, the BIOS/UEFI update did not improve the situation.
Suspend is still not triggered when the lid is closed, IF a
(DisplayPort) monitor is attached.

My description was ambiguous; it did not explicitly state that suspend
was not *initiated*, rather than suspend/resume failing. I apologize
