Public bug reported: Symptom is that the LCD on the laptop (Dell Latitude E7450) stays off after boot. The laptop is running fine and can be reached via SSH, and rebooted. I can also kill the Xorg server at which point my display manager starts a new session and restores the driver.
I believe the display driver is failing to resume as indicated by this kernel log line: Feb 2 19:08:33 LON-IX-L-763 kernel: [32839.947460] [drm:intel_display_resume [i915]] *ERROR* Restoring old state failed with -22 This looks like a regression in a recent kernel; this worked fine for ~1 year on Ubuntu 15.10 but I didn't test it on 16.04 so I can't confirm if it exists there. I suspend the machine by running pm-suspend, and it is resumed by the lid open event. I've attached the relevant time from /var/log/syslog which shows the kernel messages; this suspend was entered at 18:16:30 and woken up at 19:08:33.
