I am using mailine kernels since reporting the bug. I can confirm that
once I installed a stable released vanilla kernel that had that patch in
it (I check Greg' shortlog before installing) I could notice the absence

I had similar issue when switching to virtual terminals. Workaround #2 from #17
works for me too.
I don't know if it is the expected behaviour, but now when I hit either
ctrl+alt+F1 and ctr+alt+f2, the same graphical interface (not text consoles)
will appear.

I too am having this problem with a fresh install of 17.10 onto a ASUS
GL753 laptop. I tried both fixes above: updated to 4.13.12 and the
workaround in #17 (editing grub). System will still neither restart nor
power down without hanging.

The workaround of GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="" worked for me as well. If I
disable Wireless before reboot or shutdown this will also work.

I can confirm that on Lenovo P70 Mobile Workstation running Artful
Aardvark 17.10 an upgrade to kernel 4.13.6 or higher prevented the hang
on "wlp4s0: failed to remove key" (although as mentioned the error still
appears in the shutdown sequence).

I also found that if
Seems like 4.13.8 kernel has a fix. I had a proper reboot right after
installing the new kernel. After that I'm still seeing the same shutdown
message but laptop is able to reboot properly without a stall.
Although this has caused other weird boot error messages which I have to
take a look.

Hi,
I've copied the same file mentioned by Mohamed and it worked for that
particular session, despite getting the same message on shutdown. But
after reboot the stall issue continued to persist. Other problem is,
this also effects saving other information on shutdown, like backlight
level.

The weird hang may not be related to the iwlwifi module after all. When
running the vanilla 4.13.5 kernel from the mainline builds done at
canonical I can observe normal shutdowns. The wifi related message is
still there but the machine turns off normally!
