I'm still having the same issue on my X1 carbone 6th gen, the HDMI port does
not working and shows no signal. I've tried different HDMI cable.
running kernel: 5.4.10-050410-generic I tried also 4.15
demeg log I got:
[ 64.879116] snd_hda_codec_hdmi hdaudioC0D2: No i915 binding for Intel
HDMI/DP
I'm having same issue running kernel 4.18.0-15 on an X1 extreme using
thunderbolt 3 dock gen 2 connected from dock to monitor via HDMI cable.
Display settings detects monitor but monitor shows no signal.
System is dual boot.
Works on Windows, not on Ubuntu
I am waiting to purchase a DisplayPort
I still see this issue, both with the default Cosmic kernel (4.18) as
well as 4.20.6 installed with Ukuu.

I am running 4.15.0-24-generic on a Lenovo X1 Carbon 6th Gen with the
same specs, and I am also not able to connect to Dell Montiors at all. I
work at home with a Hyundai (Hitachi) Monitor and it works pretty well,
but on Dell U2415 (and another older Dell model) it does not work. The
display won't
I've upgraded the kernel to 4.15 and now I can use the external monitor
with the Lenovo X1 Carbon! Hooray! Thanks!

I should have added, on the Lenovo the cable goes straight into the
notebook (it has an HDMI port) while with the XPS 13 I need to use a
Thunderbold adapter for attaching the HDMI cable.

I'm using the same cable in both cases, yes. For attaching the Lenovo X1
Carbon (non-working) as well as the XPS 13 Developer Edition (working).
It's a higher quality, thick textile wrapped cable with golden
connectors.

Do you use the same cable for both cases?

I must correct my findings re the XPS 13 Developer Edition. (I'm sorry!)
The external monitor works fine. It really seems to be specific to the
Lenovo hardware.

I can't tell exactly. The system is just a week old, but I recall that
there has been a kernel upgrade. HDMI had some issues (i.e. wouldn't
connect) via Lenovo's docking station last week, it worked today though
when connected to the notebo
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.16 kernel[
I noticed that the notebook is working via HDMI with some other monitor
today. Not sure why.
I'm going to verify this finding with another monitor at home, and if
that results positive I will close this bug report again. (Sorry!)

Anyway, the F7 function key (among a few other multimedia keys), which
should do the function of switching between the external and the
internal monitor, is not configured. Is this maybe worth a bug report?
